UK's restaurants and pubs see continued improvements in sale

Britain's leading restaurant and pub groups are leading the way in showing signs of recovery during the recession as like-for-like sales were up for the third consecutive month in July. The Restaurant and pub chain seems to be bucking the trend as customers treat themselves to a night out during these gloomy times.

The latest monthly Coffer Peach Business Tracker from Peach Factory in partnership with KPMG, UBS bank and Coffer Group, revealed that sales among the 13 operators sampled were up one per cent on the same period last year.

This follows growth of 0.6 per cent and 0.4 per cent in May and June respectively, improving prospects of a recovery for hospitality recruitment.

Will Hawkley of KPMG said: "The results confirm that trading at the leading restaurant and pub groups is holding up well during the downturn.

"However operators will have to keep their focus on cash flow and driving down costs whilst continuing to generate innovative promotional campaigns." Customers are driving a hard bargain during these times and the venues which seem to be offering value for money are the real winners.

A recent survey conducted by Hogg Robinson Group also suggested that hotels that are willing to adapt their strategies during the recession will reap the rewards
