Buying a Catering Microwave
The microwave is an essential appliance in any catering environment. Mainly used to safely reheat frozen or chilled foods, they are commonplace in the pub and hotel industry.
Microwaves are split into separate bands depending on the power and size. Most units have a cavity of 1/2 gastronorm, yet 2/3 and full size gastronorm options are available.
Light Duty
With a power range of 900-1100 watts, light duty microwaves are ideal for use in small sized cafés and satellite kitchens.
Medium Duty
The power range between 1100 and 1500 watts makes medium duty microwaves a sensible option in busy catering environments where occasional use is required.
Heavy Duty
Power ranges between 1500 and 1900 watts and is the most popular choice in catering kitchens. Capable of withstanding heavy and prolonged use, this is the ideal choice for the busiest of kitchens.
Extra Heavy Duty
Designed for use where large quantities of food are produced, extra heavy duty microwaves offer the largest sized cavity and will need hard wiring into the mains.
